The Tibetan prayer flag (Darchog/dar-lcog) is a five-coloured prayer flag in Tibet. They are found on temples, passes and edges. It is believed that the prayers written on the flags are carried upwards by the wind, bringing peace and happiness to those exposed to the wind.

The prayer flags come in sets of five colours in a certain order. Each of the colours represent an element:

  1. Blue – The sky (peace)
  2. White – The air (purification)
  3. Red – Fire (compassion)
  4. Green – Water (prosperity)
  5. Yellow – The earth (knowledge)

Altogether, the colours represent balance.
